Burns and McDonnell expands Texas presence

Burns and McDonnell has expanded its presence in Texas after extending office lease and adding more square footage to its portfolio in Houston.

The Kansas City, Mo.-based engineering and construction firm, which also operates a regional office at Fort Worth’s Pier 1 Imports building, will increase its Houston office space from 158,000 square foot to 218,000. The office is located at 1700 West Loop South in Houston.

Burns and McDonnell now occupy 11 floors and more than 80% of the building, owned by Richmond, VA.-based Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners.

“With our expansion, we’ll continue to look for top-notch talent to deliver world-class solutions and expand our broad one-stop-shop capabilities in environmental, engineering, procurement and construction delivery,” Leslie Duke, president and general manager for Burns & McDonnell in Houston, said in a statement.

With the expansion, the company will be able to hire 300 additional employees within the next two years, the company said.

Since 2012, Burns and McDonnell has doubled its employee headcount and annual revenue. The growth comes from its focus on transportation, storage infrastructure, petrochemicals among other industries, the company said.

Burns and McDonnell’s Fort Worth office had partnered with North Texas Tollway Authority to construct a section of the Chisholm Trail Parkway.

The firm currently employees more than 700 employees and is looking to hire for at least 70 new positions for the Houston market.
