The former Dairy Queen at East Berry Street and Stalcup Road is set for demolition, and city officials are asking the public what should take its place.
The issue is set for discussion on Thursday Sept. 26 when Mayor Betsy Price and District 5 Councilwoman Gyna Bivens host an informal coffee at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church, 5225 Ramey Ave.
Residents are invited to discuss issues affecting their district and city, as well as suggest what should succeed the former DQ.
“I’m asking each District 5 constituent to weigh in on the topic of how we want our economic development to take shape,” Bivens said in a news release. “I’m asking everyone to answer the question, ‘What business would you like to see in place of the old Dairy Queen?’”
Festivities begin with the 9 a.m. coffee, followed by the 10:30 a.m. demolition. Though damaged by fire many years ago, the former Dairy Queen has continued to stand and is considered a neighborhood blight.
