For the third consecutive year, San Antonio ranked No. 1 in Veterans United Home Loans’ Best Cities for Veterans Homebuyers study.

Arlington was No. 3 and Fort Worth ranked No. 9.

The study compared the 100 most populated U.S. cities across four key dimensions: Economic Wellness, Employment, Availability of VA Benefits and Quality of Life for Veterans.

“Our research shows that finding affordable housing and having access to VA health facilities are very important to military families when choosing a place to live,” said Chris Birk, director of education at Veterans United Home Loans. “This study offers a glimpse into some of the basic needs that our Veterans and service members see as imperative to their everyday living.”

The study looked at 20 metrics relevant to the lives of Veterans to determine how well these cities provide opportunities for Veterans and their families to transition back into civilian life. Cities were scored in each of the 20 variables and the final rankings were determined by calculating the sum of each city’s scores, with the lowest score representing the best city for Veterans to live.
