Fort Worth ISD approves purchase of land near I.M. Terrell for expansion

Fort Worth school trustees on Tuesday approved the purchase of two foreclosed lots near the I.M. Terrell Elementary School for future expansion, as the district prepares to convert the school into STEM and visual and performing arts academies.

Trustees voted 9-0 to approve the purchase of the two 5,000-square-foot lots at 1408 and 1416 I.M. Terrell Circle South for a maximum $2,700, plus closing costs and title policies. The money will come from funds approved by voters in the district’s 2013 bond program.

The board earlier in February approved the conversion of the school into two high schools – a science, technology, engineering and math academy, and a visual and performing arts academy, both approved in the bond election. The conversion will include the construction of a second, 66,000-square-foot building.
