Construction will begin in late summer on three signature bridges of the Trinity River Vision project in Fort Worth. The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Transportation Commission awarded the $65.5 million contract to Texas Sterling Construction on May 29. The three signature bridges positioned along the future realigned Trinity River are a collaborative effort between the Trinity River Vision Authority (TRVA), TxDOT, Tarrant County, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, city of Fort Worth and North Central Texas Council of Governments.
The project will include the construction of three V-Pier bridges at Henderson Street, North Main Street and White Settlement Road. The bridges will have 10-foot pedestrian-lit sidewalks, bicycle facilities and enhanced landscaping. The new bridges also will serve as the gateways to Panther Island, an urban waterfront community. The city of Fort Worth designed project includes the use of modern roundabout intersections on Henderson and White Settlement that will include sculptures as their centerpieces. “Vision is a vital part of ensuring positive and responsible growth, and the Trinity River Vision project embraces that ideal in more than just name. With the support of valuable partnerships, like those with TxDOT and Freese and Nichols, which have helped make these beautiful signature bridges possible, the ‘Vision’ of Fort Worth’s future continues to look bright,” said Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price. Later this summer, traffic will be re-routed either on newly constructed detour roads or by using existing streets. On Henderson Street and North Main Street a detour will be in place directly next to the existing roadway to ensure little to no traffic interruption. Expected completion of the project is estimated for 2018.
