I-35W, NE 28th Street to close for bridge demolition

Motorists, take note: all lanes of northbound and southbound Interstate 35W will close from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. Friday Dec. 5 and Saturday Dec. 6 for bridge demolition.

Traffic will be redirected along the frontage road.

During the same time, all eastbound and westbound lanes of Northeast 28th Street at I-35W will close, with eastbound traffic redirected to Northside Drive and westbound traffic to 33rd Street.

Both closures will allow contractors to demolish the Northeast 28th Street bridge, the first bridge demolition in the southern segment of the I-35W reconstruction project.

This work is part of the $1.4 billion North Tarrant Express 35W project, which includes a section currently ranked eighth among the state’s most congested roadway list along 6.5 miles of I-35W from north of Interstate 30 to north of Interstate 820, including the I-35W/I-820 interchange in Fort Worth.

North Tarrant Express includes the reconstruction of main lanes and the addition of TEXpress managed lanes and will be complete in 2018, according to project planners. More information is available at www.northtarrantexpress.com.
