LanCarte joins Fort Capital

Fort Capital has added a new managing director, Sarah LanCarte, formerly with Transwester.

LanCarte will be working to develop Fort Capital’s commercial acquisitions and leasing team and to expand their commercial real estate platform. According to a news release, she will be in charge of managing portfolio investments as well as finding new acquisition opportunities.

“Sarah’s arrival at Fort Capital is our message to the market that we will be acquiring and developing industrial and commercial properties,” said Chris Powers, CEO of Fort Capital.

In addition to over seven years of experience at Transwestern, LanCarte is the current president-elect of Fort Worth CREW and she was named in the Fort Worth Business Press’ Top 20 in their 20s list in 2016.

“We struck a very mutual vision for how we hope to impact Fort Worth,” said Powers. “Sarah’s career speaks for itself – she was the top broker at Transwestern and has an uncanny ability to build solid relationships and execute on them. Her market knowledge, network, and work ethic make her a perfect fit for our firm as we look to rapidly expand our commercial business. Needless to say, we are thrilled to have her on board,” said Powers.

In a news release LanCarte said, “Joining Fort Capital was a strategic move for me. I am excited to work alongside a dynamic group of people that share the same vision and passion for Fort Worth. We plan to grow the commercial division through smart acquisitions, developments and great hires.”

Fort Capital also announced plans to invest $1 billion throughout the next five years and to expand their platform in and near Fort Worth by acquiring and managing commercial and industrial properties.

A Fort Worth based company, Fort Capital is an investment firm that concentrates on developing real estate in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. One of their projects includes the River District project in West Fort Worth.

New board members for BRIT

On June 13, the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) announced 11 new board members who help with fundraising and community outreach and engagement, as well as promoting the organization and their efforts.

-Marilyn Gilbert, executive vice president, Marketing for the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce

-Dr. Marie Holliday, owner of multiple business in Fort Worth’s Sundance Square

-Former Arizona Gov. John Fife Symington, III

-Jane Schoomaker, managing director at J.P Morgan

-Lewis D. Wall, III shareholder at Bourland, Wall & Wenzel P.C.

-Charles Amato, chairman and co-founder of SWBC

-James Estill, co-founder and former president of Calloway’s Nursery

-Debbie Morrison Keller, community volunteer.

“You couldn’t ask for a better 30th anniversary present,” said Ed Schneider, president and executive director of BRIT, in a news release. “Our outstanding board has a clear sense of mission and is committed to helping BRIT achieve its educational and research goals.”

Their board is now made up of 37 members, from community volunteers to CEOs and company presidents, vice presidents and more. In addition to community engagement, fundraising and mission promotion, it is the duty of the board to help in developing partnerships with NGO’s, educational and state institutions and departments. Board members are responsible for determining relationship compatibility in making local, national and international connections and partnerships.

According to the release, BRIT will be announcing a new series of relationships intended to further its education and research departments within the next six months. – Linda Kessler

HONORS, AWARDS

Four civic and community leaders will be honored at the 24th annual Dr. Marion J. Brooks Living Legend Award Ceremony on June 22.

The awards are presented by the Fort Worth Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. Beta Tau Lambda in association with the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum (NMWHM).

Recognized this year are Gwen Barbee, Community Service; Paulette Turner, Business; Bishop Robert L. Sample, Religion; and Dr. Robert T. McDaniel, Education.

Barbee is founder and director of the Fort Worth Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce Film Institute. Turner is a retired IBM executive and is an executive coach, certified facilitator and leadership development consultant. She is a program director for Leadership Fort Worth. Sample has served at Holy Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Fort Worth’s Stop Six community for 48 years. He was one of the first African-American pastors on the committee for Drug Abuse Prevention of the State of Texas Department of Community Affairs. McDaniel began his teaching career in the Fort Worth ISD in 1949 and retired as principal of Morningside Middle School in 1985 after a 37-year career. During World War II, he was a member of the 447th Bombardment Group and one of the 104 officers of the 477th Group involved in “The Freeman Field Officers Club Incident” that eventually led to the integration of all officer’s clubs and other military facilities previously off-limits to black officers. In 2007, he was one of the original Tuskegee Airmen awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by President George Bush.

Anne Elise Parks is joining the CBS 11 news team as weekend evening meteorologist beginning Monday, July 3.

Parks was most recently weekend meteorologist/co-host at KTVI-TV in St. Louis. Prior to that, she was the morning/midday meteorologist for WTWO/WAWV in Terre Haute, Indiana. Parks holds a bachelor’s degree in geoscience from Mississippi State University, where she graduated with honors.
