The Medical Center of Plano broke ground Tuesday on a new state-of-the-art satellite Emergency Room (ER), located at the southeast corner of Coit Road and State Highway 121/Sam Rayburn Tollway in Plano. Set to open in January 2014, the new 10,500 square-foot facility will offer comprehensive emergency care near residents in parts of north Plano, Frisco, and McKinney. “We’re excited to bring this new, full-service, state-of-the-art ER to this location for families with young children and adults of all ages who need quick and convenient care for minor or more serious injuries and sudden illnesses,” said Troy Villarreal, CEO of The Medical Center of Plano. The ER will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round, and will be staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and registered nurses. It will include 12 private patient rooms. With a focus on children, staff will have specialized training in pediatrics including a child life specialist. Two rooms will be themed for pediatric patients and an alliance with Medical City Children’s Hospital will support the services extended to young patients. Architectural plans and specifications have been designed by Read King Medical Development, a Houston-based real estate firm. Batten and Shaw Inc., a Nashville construction management firm specializing in health care and commercial construction, will serve as the project’s contractor.
