Methodist Health System has broken ground on Methodist Mansfield Medical Center’s new patient care tower.
Set to open in fall 2015, the 110,000 square-foot tower will serve patients at the northwest corner of the existing hospital, 2700 E. Broad St. The $118 million project also includes expanded support services for the acute care Methodist Mansfield Medical Center.
The expansion includes 34,000 square feet of additional operating rooms, cardiology and gastroenterology services and 64,000 square feet of additional support services including lab, pharmacy, materials management, biomed, sterile processing, to name a few.
“Methodist Health System is excited to begin its expansion of our second patient care tower in Mansfield today,” said Levi Davis, chairman of the Methodist Health System board of directors, commenting in a news release.
Since opening as a community hospital in 2006, the facility has nearly doubled its capacity in seven years.
The new tower will open with 54 beds, with shell space for 64 more. Construction of the new tower will occur concurrently with normal day-today hospital operations and will be integrated with existing infrastructure.
When complete, the hospital is expected to advance cardiology services through electrophysiology cardiac care and cardiac rehabilitation, house a dedicated stroke inpatient unit, have additional inpatient cardiology capacity, expanded inpatient dialysis and offer a 14-bed intensive care unit. The expansion also will include two new surgical suites dedicated to robotic and cardiac care as well as four gastroenterology suites, expanded outpatient cardiopulmonary testing area, as well as the laboratory, pharmacy, sterile processing, information technology, food services and a new two-story atrium lobby and community room.
“We are excited and grateful for the investment of $118 million in Mansfield and the creation of an additional 200 jobs, with $144 million in aggregate economic impact. We could not have hoped for a better health provider and partner to locate in the city of Mansfield,” said Mayor David Cook.
The new patient care tower two will be supported by a $2 million capital campaign – the largest in the hospital’s history. The Building Brighter, Shining Farther campaign will be spearheaded by Jenny Conrad, president of Conrad Creative.
