A new 48-bed treatment center offering acute psychiatric care for adult and geriatric patients has opened at 6200 Overton Ridge Blvd. in southwest Fort Worth. Oceans Healthcare, a Louisiana-based health care company that specializes in the development and management of behavioral health services, and SRP Medical, a health care investment and development company, celebrated on May 8 the grand opening of the Oceans Behavioral Hospital Fort Worth. Oceans Behavioral Hospital Fort Worth will continue staffing the 34,000-square-foot facility, hiring up to 100 workers. The facility will be licensed as an acute care hospital by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The hospital offers individualized care to adults over 55 suffering from mood and behavior disturbances or progressive, degenerative illnesses that are not provided in a typical adult psychiatric care setting or general acute care hospital. “SRP was proud to support Oceans in creating an exceptional center of care and healing that effectively addresses the underserved acute behavioral health needs of the adult and senior population in Fort Worth,” said Marc Goldman, a founding partner of SRP Medical, who grew up in Fort Worth.

Behavioral health hospitals focus with patients dealing with mental health issues, Goldman said. “I had a very close friend in Dallas whose mother went into depression – some people go into depression in the later years of their life. They get to where they can’t function because of this depression, literally can’t get out of bed. They can come to our facility and get their medications correct and they may need 14 to 17 days of psychiatric therapy so they can return to a normal life,” he said. SRP and Oceans Healthcare are also working on the Oceans Behavioral Hospital Plano, planned as a 48-bed specialty hospital focused, like the Fort Worth facility, on behavioral health care for senior patients. SRP Medical, formerly part of the Staubach Company, is a real estate investment and development company focused on health care-related investments throughout Texas and the southern U.S. Rogers O’Brien was the project’s general contractor and Ascension Group was the architect. Oceans Healthcare operates 16 inpatient behavioral health care facilities and 12 intensive outpatient programs in Louisiana and Texas.
