Texas Health building designed/built by Beck receives DBIA Merit Award

Texas Health Resources Mansfield

A Texas Health Resources building designed and built by The Beck Group received a 2018 Merit Award winner in the health care category from the Design-Build Institute of America.

The Beck Group partnered with Arlington-based Texas Health Resources to design and build the Mansfield facility, the Texas Health Recovery and Wellness Center, which is the only North Texas project to earn a spot on the DBIA list of awardees.

One of the challenges the Beck project-team faced when delivering the building involved unusual weather conditions. This occurred during the most critical time of the construction schedule and delayed the project close to a month. There was also a late request to add a visitation area to the building program, requiring design changes to fit the space within the current footprint of the building. With proper communication and collaboration with the owner, Beck completed the project on time, as originally scheduled, according to a Beck posting.

Merit Award winners will next compete for the National Award of Excellence and Project of the Year awards, which are announced at the DBIA’s Design-Build Conference and Expo in New Orleans later this year.

The Texas Health Recovery and Wellness Center provides residential treatment for clients that need professional help to resolve addictions. A typical client stays at the treatment center for 30 days. During their stay, clients are involved in daily routines mainly comprised of group therapy activities. The final design-build effort features a swimming pool, gym, basketball court, fitness room, yoga studio, massage therapy, movie room and dining area. This facility serves individuals from the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond.

The $37 million, 70,000-square foot Texas Health center is an 80-bed facility located at 240 North Miller Road in Mansfield.
