Fort Worth cinema fans have been in the dark for a place to watch independent and local films for many years.

But coming this fall is The Grand Berry Theater — a single-screen cinema and event space focused on screening indie and local film, scheduled to open in the fall in The Foundry District.

The company’s owners, Jimmy and Brooke Sweeney, describe the new 50-seat theater as a mission-driven, community-based business that offers a unique movie-going experience.

According to a news release on the new theater, the owners believe film is “an artistic means of expressing personal experience and world views, and value those expressions as a means to create open dialogue.”

The theater will feature indie, local and art house film, as well as a variety of second-run classic films and kids movies. They plan on hosting theme nights, Q&A led discussions, and “Open Screen Nights” where local filmmakers can show their short films.

“The Grand Berry Theater is a perfect addition to The Foundry District, adding another element of creativity and expanding our community’s artistic culture into film and film enthusiasts,” said Jessica Miller, The Foundry District’s co-founder.

The Grand Berry guests can lounge in a mix of leather chairs and loveseats while enjoying traditional movie theater drinks and snacks. The theater plans to eventually offer a full bar with local beer, wine and movie-inspired cocktails. Tickets to screenings will cost $7 and will primarily take place at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Outside of screening times, The Grand Berry will be open from 9:30 a.m. to midnight.
