Morrison Supply Co. LLC, a Fort Worth-based wholesale distributor of plumbing, HVAC and builder products throughout the Southwest, has been on a growth and acquisition binge.

In November of 2011, Morrison sold majority shares to Advent International and with that change began renewed expansion. Now part of an umbrella wholesale distribution entity called MORSCO, the company has been busy over the last few years expanding throughout the southwest and, more recently to the east coast as well. MORSCO distributes more than 80,000 national and private label products to more than 25,000 customers in its service area.

With the acquisition of Murray Supply in North Carolina in September 2015, MORSCO will now be comprised of seven business operating units: Morrison Supply Co., Express Pipe & Supply, Farnsworth Wholesale Co., Wholesale Specialties, Expressions Home Gallery, Kiva Kitchen & Bath and Murray Supply Co. The company has more than 100 branches and showrooms located in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas and North Carolina. MORSCO branches also distribute commercial and residential plumbing, lighting, appliances, HVAC, pipe, valves, fittings and oil and gas and waterworks supplies. Morrison Supply remains a leading wholesale distributor in the Southwest with over 100 locations and 30 showrooms throughout the region.

But the roots go back to 99-year-old Morrison Supply Co. in Fort Worth. The company’s roots go back to 1917, when J.T. Morrison, W.L. Armstrong and R.P. Turbeville founded Fort Worth Pump & Windmill Co. in 1917.

The company changed its name in 1920 to Fort Worth Supply Co. to reflect its new direction and focus on plumbing supplies. In 1926, the company took on the name Morrison Supply Co. to reflect the leadership of J.T. Morrison.

During the first three decades of the company’s history, Morrison confined operations to Texas, opening various branches around the state: Amarillo in 1922, Wichita Falls in 1926, Lubbock in 1940, and Odessa in 1946.

In 1953, Morrison began operating in south Texas with the purchase of Rich Supply in Houston. The same year a San Diego, California-based appliance and kitchen cabinet business was added to the Morrison group.

The company credits its commitment to “providing customers with unsurpassed product availability, expert service, a highly talented team of people focused on assisting our customers, and competitive prices,” according to the company’s history on its website.

The company has not just seen sales growth, hitting over $1 billion in sales in 2015, up from $741 million in 2014, but it has also received accolades from the industry. Expressions Home Gallery was selected by a panel of lighting, retail and merchandising experts as a finalist for the seventh annual 2016 Showroom of the Year Awards, presented by Dallas Market Center and Residential Lighting.
