UPDATE: Westin-branded hotel planned for Cultural District

A Westin-branded hotel that would stand near the Modern Art Museum along University Drive awaits Fort Worth City Council consideration.

At the pre-council portion of the July 28 regular council meeting, officials heard plans by HRI Properties to develop a $52-million, six-story, 250-room hotel. The facility would stand on University Drive between Morton and Bledsoe streets and serve as the main hotel for a multipurpose arena planned for Will Rogers Memorial Center.

“This is an excellent project and much, much needed,” Mayor Betsy Price said. “We say move forward.”

The facility promises not only guests rooms, but also a full-service restaurant, three-story parking garage able to accommodate up to 210 vehicles, and 15,000 square feet of meeting space.

The council is expected to vote on a 10-year economic development agreement at its Aug. 4 regular meeting.

Komatsu Architecture of Fort Worth is doing the schematic design for the hotel.
