UPS adding Alliance, McKinney locations and 500 area jobs

UPS said Aug. 21 it will add two new package distribution facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by November just in time for the holiday season. Both buildings are being leased and modified to serve as distribution facilities. The new facilities, one located in the Alliance development in far north Fort Worth and the other in McKinney, are expected to bring 500 new jobs to the local economy. “UPS continues to see growth in and around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex,” said Craig Wiltz, president of the Red River District. “These two new buildings increase our ability to address the rapid expansion of residential and commercial demand and significantly increase our employee base in the area.” The Alliance building, nicknamed “Independence,” will create more than 300 package handler jobs and more than 50 tractor trailer driver positions. The 495,000-square-foot building will serve UPS customers in the North Tarrant and South Denton counties. Sharon Morrison with E. Smith Realty Partners represented UPS, and Tony Creme represented Hillwood Properties.

“This state-of-the-art UPS facility significantly enhances the logistics platform currently offered at AllianceTexas, especially as e-commerce companies continue to locate their fulfillment centers here,” said Tony Creme, vice president of Hillwood Properties. “UPS has been an integral, valued member of the AllianceTexas project for many years, and we look forward to their continued growth and success with this new location.” The Independence facility will feature state-of-the-art package sorting technology. Computerized planning technology will enable UPS engineers to plan package sorts in multiple configurations. This “smart” building technology provides UPS flexibility to balance volume surges or other demand changes.

The second building in McKinney will bring 120 new full-time jobs to the area. By 2017, UPS also will bring more than 200 part-time jobs to McKinney. The 215,000-square-foot facility will serve UPS customers in Collin County. UPS will utilize an existing facility in McKinney that was formerly occupied by Blockbuster. “The building in McKinney is a great fit for UPS and will provide the space and central location that was integral in the site selection process,” said Morrison, CEO with E Smith Realty. “We are excited to welcome such a reputable company to McKinney,” said McKinney Economic Development Corporation Board Chairman, Ernest Lynch III. “The city’s central location and easy access to major highways makes it an ideal location for UPS to serve customers nationwide.” The company plans to occupy the new facility in November 2014. With the addition of these sites, UPS now has eight buildings serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area with more than 7,500 employees. Applicants can learn more about UPS jobs at upsjobs.com.
