WestBend will add two new apparel brands to Fort Worth with the upcoming store openings of Marine Layer and Texas Standard.

Marine Layer is a lifestyle apparel brand for men, women and children with a line of sustainable, custom-made pieces in soft fabrics. Named “the softest shirts around” by Men’s Journal, Marine Layer’s selection spans T-shirts, sweaters, outerwear, swim, active apparel and more. The brand’s more than 100 custom fabrics are made with MicroModal, a signature fiber made from recycled beechwood. Pieces are produced ethically and sustainably in California and overseas, a news release said.

The 1,550-square-foot store will open in June at 1701 River Run next to the newly opened Bluemercury, a makeup and skincare specialty store.

“We’re excited to come to Fort Worth, and WestBend’s location, vibe and tenant mix were a big draw,” said Marine Layer founder Michael Natenshon. “It was a natural fit.”

The Marine Layer story began in 2010 in San Francisco when Natenshon sought a new T-shirt as soft as the beloved old tee his girlfriend had thrown in the trash. After taking over a year to perfect a custom fabric, Natenshon released Marine Layer’s first batch of tees. The brand has since grown to include numerous apparel categories and 34 stores around the U.S.

Texas Standard is a men’s premium clothing brand designed and developed in Texas, billed as the outfitters of the Texas gentleman. It will open a pop-up shop as part of the new Pop Up program recently launched by WestBend’s developer, Trademark Property Company. The Pop Up program is designed to offer emerging and e-commerce brands the opportunity to generate revenue, increase brand awareness and engage with customers in a brick-and-mortar format.

“We have some incredible retail partners throughout the state, and we love meeting our customers face to face. A pop-up shop is the natural progression for our business,” said Texas Standard co-founder Christine Bagot. “The timing could not be more perfect with big events like the Fort Worth Invitational, TCU graduation and Father’s Day just around the corner.”

Texas Standard was founded in 2016 with a quality-first mindset, driven by the belief that Texans deserve clothing that represents who they are and where they’re from. The brand offers a selection of sports shirts, polos, T-shirts and accessories for men that feature the signature barbed wire emblem. Ten percent of the company’s profits are donated to Texas-focused charities as part of its Ten for Texas initiative to give back to communities around the state.

The 787-square-foot store will open on May 10 at 1653 River Run between Drybar and BONOBOS.
