The owners of Heim BBQ today announced they signed a lease Monday making way for the barbecue restaurant’s second location, this one in the River District development on the city’s westside.
In a Facebook post Tuesday morning they said: “We’re now officially in the River District. We cannot wait to start construction to turn our new location into a one of a kind destination. Get ready Fort Worth! Here comes Heim on the River!”
Travis and Emma Heim opened their first brick and mortar Heim BBQ location on Magnolia last August and quickly began looking to the expansion of the brand.
They were drawn to the River District, which winds along the Trinity River on White Settlement.
After exploring the possibility of opening their second Heim BBQ at the site of the former Thurber Mingus on White Settlement, they decided the revamp would simply be too costly. That’s when they turned their attention just down the road.
Along with backers, Will Churchill and Corrie Watson, of Kent & Co. Wines and Frank Kent Cadillac, the Heim’s signed a lease on Monday with Chris Powers Jr., the founder and CEO of Fort Capital LP, the lead developer of the River District.
Heim BBQ will be located inside the old VFW building at 5333 White Settlement. The best guess on completion of the 8,000 square foot project is sometime in the first quarter of 2018, said Powers.
When complete, the new Heim BBQ will join other restaurants in the area, including Salsa Limon and Lettuce Cook. The district which will ultimately include retail, office space, and both apartment and residential housing.
