Taste Community Restaurant postpones opening date

Taste Community Restaurant, Fort Worth’s newest nonprofit restaurant, has announced they are postponing their opening date from Aug. 22 to Oct. 17.

The restaurant will be located in Fort Worth’s Near South Side at 1200 S. Main St. and is a pay-what-you-can establishment.

The nonprofit’s new launch is officially set for Tues. Oct. 17 to be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The restaurant will be open Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays.

According to the company news release, Taste Project, the umbrella which Taste Community Project falls under, is a nonprofit aiming to feed, educate and serve the community, “so everyone may ‘taste and see the Lord is good.’ Psalm 34:8.”

“The restaurant is nearly complete, but we are waiting for new infrastructure from Oncor to support our electrical power needs,” said restaurant founder Jeff Williams in the release. “It’s not what we hoped for. But as God reveals more and more to us, we’re realizing, it’s something much better.”

The menu at Tate will offer a healthy, high quality meal made from seasonal, local ingredients, but will show no prices. Diners are asked to choose from three options, pay what you can afford, pay what you would typically pay or pay what you would typically pay, plus a little extra.

“80 percent of our staff will be volunteers,” Williams said in the release. “We are using the additional time to create a more positive experience for our Taste Buds, our term for our volunteers, who will be the lifeline of Taste Project and Taste Community Restaurant.”

Taste is still looking for volunteers to help support their cause. No experience is required and training will be provided. Those interested can sign up for a three-hour shift or find out more information at
