Top Five List: Where to buy your Thanksgiving pie

Swiss Pastry Shop pies

No matter which in-laws (or out-laws) you will be dining with this year…there is always one thing to look forward to…the dessert table.

My childhood memories of Thanksgiving include gatherings of 75 or more (my grandmother was from a large family). Long tables loaded with casseroles, side-dishes and multiple carved turkeys were lined up on display. There were horrifying prospects laid before us like the dreaded oyster dressing, but if we could avoid those pitfalls and manage to eat our vegetables, we could earn a trip to the dessert table − filled with all its wonders.

In case you don’t have ordering Thanksgiving pies on your to-do-list this week…time is quickly running out! Consider yourself warned.

Why bake when you can purchase the perfect show-stopping holiday pie? Try adding one of these amazing hand-made pies to your dessert table this Thanksgiving.

Black Rooster Bakery – Pecan Pie.

With its thick, flaky crust and hand-made appeal, no one will blame you for purchasing rather than baking it yourself. Golden pecans folded throughout this All-American favorite just screams Thanksgiving.

McKinley’s Bakery – Chocolate Meringue Pie

With pretty swirls of fluffy meringue and a rich chocolate filling, McKinley’s version is always a winner. The light crust is grandmother-worthy and chocolate is a perennial favorite.

Stir Crazy Baked Goods – Pumpkin Pie.

This is your must-have dessert-table centerpiece. Featuring a dense, perfectly-spiced filling and beautiful braided crust you might as well order two, because everyone will make a bee-line to the pumpkin pie.

Swiss Pastry Shop – Texas Krack Pie

Who doesn’t love a chess pie? Here is an updated twist: this one is an interesting brown sugar chess pie with plenty of vanilla and cinnamon, in the oh-so-sweet filling. The top is dusted with powdered sugar with a prominent state of Texas in the center. This is how we do Thanksgiving in Cowtown Ya’ll!

Paris Coffee Shop – Coconut Meringue Pie

This historic diner has been the neighborhood anchor since 1926. They have even garnered national attention (when they were featured on Food Network’s Sugar High) for their amazing mile-high meringue pies. You cannot make a bad choice, but we love the coconut cream pie with lightly toasted coconut on top.
