President Barack Obama and his family returned to Washington after a long flight back from the West Coast on Sunday night, but the president was in no hurry to get back to the White House.

Air Force One landed at Joint Base Andrews at 10:19 p.m. Eastern time, according to the White House pool report -with a little less than two minutes left in perhaps the closest, most exciting Game 7 the NBA Finals has ever produced. So . . . ask yourself this question: The family may be exhausted and sick and tired of one another after a vacation, but would you have turned off the game and headed for Marine One at the point?

Heck, no.

So the hoops-loving president exercised a little executive privilege, hanging out on the plane until the buzzer sounded.

When the family returned to the White House at 10:56 p.m., Obama wasn’t taking questions about the game, which was lost by Golden State and Stephen Curry – one of his occasional golfing partners.
