Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage has been announced as the recipient of the Middle Tennessee State University Distinguished Alumni Award,  the Alumni Association’s highest honor.

Gossage, MTSU class of ’82 graduate of the then-College of Mass Communication, will be officially honored during the university’s homecoming weekend in Murfreesboro Oct. 6 and 7. He will receive his award during Oct. 6’s Distinguished Alumni Awards Reception.

The award is given to alumni who “represent excellence and distinction through their professional careers, loyal support and service to the broader community,” the release stated.

In addition to being an MTSU alumni, Gossage has served on the board of professional advisers for the MTSU College of Media and Entertainment and Speedway Children’s Charities Board of Trustees.

“I am truly honored to be receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Middle Tennessee Alumni Association,” Gossage said. “I treasured my time as a student in Murfreesboro and have enjoyed staying associated with the school in a variety of capacities over the years.”

Gossage is known for his work at the speedway, as he is not only in his 21st year at the company, but he is the only president and general manager in the speedway’s history.

Outside of his work at the speedway, Gossage is known for his position on the NASCAR Hall of Fame Nominating and Selection Committees. In addition to helping others be recognized, he has been recognized himself and is a member of the College of Media and Entertainment’s Wall of Fame.
