DALLAS (AP) — Some Dallas Cowboys have helped serve early Thanksgiving meals to the needy at Salvation Army Centers in North Texas.

Quarterback Tony Romo, tight end Jason Witten and defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford were among the players Monday to wear Salvation Army aprons over their jerseys and serve lunch in Dallas or Fort Worth.

The meals included plates of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, rolls and cranberry sauce. Some players took along their children and wives to help hand out food or visit with the diners.

The Cowboys host Carolina on Thanksgiving Day to kick off The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign, with country star Luke Bryan performing at halftime. The charitable effort runs from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve.
