TCU football signees include a familar name: Tomlinson

The TCU band performed the national anthem before the Horned Frogs season opener game against Jackson State on Saturday night at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

TCU head coach Gary Patterson and the Horned Frogs football program announced the signing of seven student-athletes Wednesday, supplementing the 22 from December.

TCU’s 2019 recruiting class is ranked third in the Big 12 and 28th nationally by 247Sports.com.

Fifteen of the 29 signees are in-state products while a total of 11 states and Australia are represented. Two players are from California, Kansas and Nevada and one each are from Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Utah.

Nineteen signees are on defense, including eight defensive backs, eight defensive linemen and three linebackers. TCU’s nine offensive signees include three offensive linemen, two quarterbacks, two running backs and two wide receivers. The Horned Frogs also signed a punter.

Eleven of TCU’s newcomers enrolled early and will take part in spring practice: Wide receiver Mikel Barkley (Temecula, Calif.), safety Nook Bradford (Helotes), offensive lineman Brannon Brown (San Antonio), defensive back Donovann Collins (Cedar Hill), quarterback Alex Delton (Kansas State), quarterback Max Duggan (Council Bluffs, Iowa), defensive lineman Soni Misi (Rohnert Park, Calif.), defensive lineman Adam Plant Jr. (Las Vegas, Nev.), punter Jordan Sandy (Traralgon, Australia), offensive lineman Marcus Williams (Longview) and defensive lineman Parker Workman (Ephraim, Utah).

Three-star recruit … rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 weakside defensive end in Louisiana and No. 35 in the nation … the No. 23 overall player in the state … an All-District 8-5A selection … chose TCU over Oklahoma, Florida State, Georgia and Iowa State.

Shameik Blackshear (DL, 6-5, 270, Bluffton, S.C.; South Carolina; Bluffton HS)

Graduate transfer from South Carolina … played in all 13 games in 2018 with starts in the final two contests for the Gamecocks, the regular-season finale versus Akron and the Belk Bowl against Virginia … totaled 34 tackles with a sack in his three seasons in Columbia … had a standout prep career and played in the Under Armour All-America game … a four-star prospect who was ranked as the second-best player in the state, the eighth-best weakside defensive end in the country and No. 119 overall by 247Sports … chose South Carolina over offers from Clemson, Georgia, LSU and North Carolina.

Alex Delton (QB, 6-0, 200, Hays, Kan.; Kansas State; Hays HS)

Graduate transfer from Kansas State … a two-time, first-team Academic All-Big 12 honoree … rushed for 868 yards and 11 touchdowns in his K-State career … had a 1-yard scoring run against TCU in 2018 … ran for a career-high eight touchdowns and 500 yards his sophomore year in 2017 … completed 56.1 percent of his passes in his career for 1,202 yards with five touchdowns … came off the bench in the 2017 Cactus Bowl to rush for a K-State bowl record 158 yards and three scores en route to Offensive MVP accolades in a win over UCLA … took his first rushing attempt 68 yards for a touchdown, the longest carry ever by a Wildcat in a bowl game … also tallied a 100-yard rushing game that year against No. 9 Oklahoma with 142 yards and another three touchdowns … his two 100-yard rushing games tied for the most by a Big 12 quarterback during the 2017 season … rated the No. 23 dual-threat quarterback nationally by Rivals and 33rd by ESPN, while he was rated the fifth-best player in the state of Kansas and the top quarterback in the state.

Dylan Jordan (LB, 6-3, 215, Pittsburg, Kan.; Pittsburg HS)

Four-star signee … rated by 247Sports as the No. 14 outside linebacker in the nation and 196th-best overall player … ranked as the No. 1 outside linebacker in Kansas and No. 3 overall player in the state … member of the 247Sports Top 247 … chose TCU over Nebraska, Auburn, Utah and Kansas.

Kee’yon Stewart (DB, 5-11, 160, Houston, Texas; North Shore HS)

Three-star recruit … ranked as the No. 12 cornerback in Texas and No. 100 in the nation … the No. 146 overall player in Texas … helped lead North Shore to the Texas Class 6A Division I state championship as a senior … selected TCU over Texas Tech, Louisville and Utah.
