TCU women’s basketball team moves forward with win over Lamar

TCU women’s basketball shot over 60 percent and grabbed an 80-68 win over Lamar in the first round of the WNIT at Schollmaier Arena on Thursday night. The Frogs will now host Missouri State in the second round on Saturday.

TCU (20-12) has won 20 games for the first time since 2010-11 and is now 5-1 all-time at home in the WNIT. The Frogs posted the fourth highest field goal percentage in school history, and needed it to combat a Lamar (22-8) team known for its aggressive defense.

Jordan Moore led TCU with 24 points and 11 rebounds. She made 10-of-11 shots and was a big part of TCU’s 40-8 advantage in points in the paint. Adeola Akomolafe added 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting while Kianna Ray chipped in 16 points and five assists.

The Horned Frogs fought through 20 turnovers – Lamar forces an average of 27 per game – and posted 23 assists, including a game-high seven from Amber Ramirez.
