UT to review all academic support services for athletes

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – The University of Texas has ordered a review of all of its academic support services for athletes after allegations of misconduct in the men’s basketball program.

The school had already hired Gene Marsh, who was on the NCAA infractions committee for nine years, to review allegations of academic misconduct around three players reported last week by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

University President Greg Fenves has now authorized a review of support services across the entire athletic program. The school said Tuesday it will release a public report.

The basketball allegations focus on former players P.J. Tucker, J’Covan Brown and Martez Walker, who all played under coach Rick Barnes, who was fired in March after 17 seasons.

Texas said last week it has no information suggesting Barnes knew of or was involved in any academic improprieties.
