The North Texas Commission and The Cleanweb Initiative have launched a three-month app development competition aimed at generating software-based solutions and companies.
The NTx Apps Challenge invites computer application designers to create apps in five categories: water, waste, energy, transportation and the “Internet of Things.”
Winners will be eligible for at least $80,000 in prizes.
Registration is open for the free interactive challenge kickoff set for Thursday July 24 at the Dallas Entrepreneurship Center. During the three-month competition, teams of coders, developers, designers, and entrepreneurs will work to develop Web and mobile applications addressing specific issues within those categories.
“Need is the mother of all invention and the NTx Apps Challenge offers us an opportunity to engage fresh thinkers to develop unique and innovative solutions to solve regional issues,” said Robert Kent, director of public policy for the North Texas Commission and challenge co-founder, commenting in a news release.
The challenge features five primary events, including the aforementioned July 24 kickoff, as well as the NTx Apps Data Jam on Saturday July 26.
All submissions are due by Oct. 6, with an awards night program to follow later in October.
Modeled after similar programs in New York City and San Diego, the challenge is a first of its kind in Texas. More information is available at www.cleanweb.co
