Charter offering to buy out fees to add to commercial business

Charter Communications Inc. is taking a page from cell phone providers by offering to buy out the early termination fees, up to a certain amount, for business customers switching to Charter Business services. The buyout will allow businesses locked into contracts to switch to Charter Business without paying termination fees typically association with an early switch.

“Business Customers who would like to experience the higher internet speeds and robust suite of products offered by Charter Business often feel trapped in their current contracts.” said Don Detampel, executive vice president and president for commercial services for Charter. In the Stamford, Conn.-based company’s recent first quarter earnings statement, Charter officials said its increase in commercial revenues was due primarily to higher sales to small business customers. Cell phone providers have been making similar offers to customers in the past 12 months. Charter serves the Fort Worth area.
