The city of Arlington will launch its Via Rideshare pilot program on Monday, Dec. 11. Via Rideshare is an on-demand rideshare transportation service that will be available in select areas of the city for a $3 flat-rate fee.
According to a news release, the Rideshare program uses a smartphone app and a fleet of rideshare vehicles to provide a transportation service to the community that has no fixed schedules or routes and an infinite number of on-demand stops.
Through this program, passengers share their ride and save money. They book a trip on a rideshare vehicle using the free Via app. After entering their pickup and drop-off locations a vehicle will pick the customer up at a nearby location no more than a block or two away.
For those who don’t have a smartphone, a dial-in number to Via
will be available.
According to the release, the City of Arlington contracted Via Transportation to develop and operate the on-demand rideshare program as part of a one-year pilot program approved by the Arlington City Council and supported by the Transportation Advisory Committee.
Initial service will be offered between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 9
a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday.
At launch, the service will offer rides around Downtown, the Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital area, the Entertainment District and up to the CentrePort TRE Station.
In future phases, the service is expected to expand out to the University of Texas at
Arlington, the Parks Mall, Arlington Highlands shopping area and more.
