The city of Arlington will launch its Via Rideshare pilot program on Monday, Dec. 11. Via Rideshare is an on-demand rideshare transportation service that will be available in select areas of the city for a $3 flat-rate fee.

According to a news release, the Rideshare program uses a smartphone app and a fleet of rideshare vehicles to provide a transportation service to the community that has no fixed schedules or routes and an infinite number of on-demand stops.

Through this program, passengers share their ride and save money. They book a trip on a rideshare vehicle using the free Via app. After entering their pickup and drop-off locations a vehicle will pick the customer up at a nearby location no more than a block or two away.

For those who don’t have a smartphone, a dial-in number to Via

Initial service will be offered between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 9

a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday.
