HOUSTON (AP) — Plans for a “bullet train” that planners say would carry passengers between Houston and Dallas in 90 minutes is expected to clear an early hurdle.
Federal officials are scheduled to announce Wednesday if Texas and the private company behind the rail project can begin environmental reviews for the project. Proponents tell the Houston Chronicle that they are expecting the go-ahead for beginning that review process.
The concept has fueled discussion among Fort Worth and North Texas officials in recent years.
Texas Central Railway, the company behind the project, has given no cost estimates. However, proponents say construction could begin on the 240-mile project as soon as 2016 and trains could begin rolling as soon as 2021.
