FORT STOCKTON, Texas (AP) — First Solar Inc. has announced plans for a power plant in West Texas.

Arizona-based First Solar on Wednesday said the company has begun construction on the first phase of the Barilla Solar Project in Pecos County, west of Fort Stockton.

Company officials say the 22-megawatt project is expected to begin commercial operation in mid-2014. The plant using solar panels will generate electricity available for customers such as utilities, power cooperatives and larger commercial and industrial users.
