A. Lee Graham Reporter Texas Instruments Inc. of Dallas has announced that Ambassador Ron Kirk, former Dallas mayor and U.S. trade tepresentative under President Barack Obama, has been elected to TI’s board of directors, effective September 19, 2013.
Kirk currently serves as senior of counsel in the Dallas and Washington, D.C. offices of the global law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.
“We are very excited to have Ron join our board. The market that TI operates in today is an international one that crosses borders on every continent,” said Rich Templeton, TI’s chairman, president and CEO, commenting in a news release.
“Ron’s recent experience as the nation’s lead representative and negotiator on international trade policies, as well as his prior experience in private practice focused on public finance and public policy, give him a perspective that is highly relevant to our business and new to our boardroom,” Templeton said.
Kirk, 59, joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in April 2013. From 2009 to 2013, he served as a member of Obama’s cabinet as U.S. trade representative, where he was responsible for the development and oversight of U.S. trade policy and served as principal trade adviser, negotiator and spokesperson on all trade issues.
Prior to becoming U.S. trade representative, Kirk was a partner at the global law firm of Vinson & Elkins LLP, where his practice focused on public finance and public policy. Earlier, he served as mayor of Dallas from 1995 to 2001.
