Lyft is committed to reducing drinking and driving across Texas by providing a sober ride for passengers, the company explained in a news release. That’s why they are launching Sober Rides TX with the support of the Texas Municipal Police Association.

The Sober Rides TX pilot program will kick off on Cinco de Mayo with Lyft offering an initial commitment of $50,000 in Sober Rides across Texas, the release said.

Texans can claim their free Lyft ride (up to $10) for Cinco de Mayo at lyft.com/invite/SOBERTXCINCO.

“Ridesharing is a critical way that we can reduce impaired driving in Dallas and across Texas,” Yohan Bobcombe, Dallas-Fort Worth market manager for Lyft, said in the release. “As we gear up for this weekend, we know people will be out celebrating so we’re proud to come together across the state to offer passengers access to affordable, reliable, and responsible transportation.”

Launching as a pilot program on May 5, Lyft says it looks forward to working with key stakeholders and communities to grow the Sober Rides TX program.

“Recent data shows that Texas led the nation in traffic fatalities, with alcohol impaired drivers contributing to 44 percent of these deaths,” Mitch Landry, deputy executive director of Government Affairs for Texas Municipal Police Association, said in the release. “We are grateful for Lyft’s leadership in helping the more than 27,000 local, county and state law enforcement officers we represent across Texas keep our citizens safe.”
