3 killed in Interstate 45 wreck caused by wrong-way driver

CORSICANA, Texas (AP) — Investigators south of Dallas are trying to determine what led a motorist to drive into oncoming traffic on Interstate 45, trigging a five-vehicle wreck that killed three people.

The interstate was closed for hours following the collision Wednesday evening north of Corsicana near the town of Rice.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says a Ford Explorer was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-45 and collided with a Nissan Rogue. Three other vehicles then struck the wreckage.

The driver of the Nissan and a passenger were taken to a hospital where they died. A second passenger died at the scene.
