American Airlines Group reports bump in revenue passenger miles

Total revenue passenger miles are up at American Airlines Group, according to newly released July 2014 and year-to-date traffic results.

The Fort Worth firm reported total revenue passenger miles for July reached 20.8 billion, up 1.1 percent compared to 20.5 percent in he same month last year, according to a news release.

Revenue passenger miles reflect the number of miles traveled by paying passengers.

Total capacity reached 24.4 billion available seat miles, 3.1 percent higher compared to 23.6 billion the same month last year. Total passenger load factor was 85.1 percent for the month of July 2014, 1.7 points lower compared to 86.8 percent the same month last year.

The passenger load factor measures how much of an airline’s passenger space is used.

Based on one month of data and two months of forecast, the company said it expects its third quarter 2014 consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile to reach about 1.0 percent to 3 percent compared to the same period last year.
