American Airlines posts March traffic increase

By Betty Dillard American Airlines traffic, capacity up slightly in March AMR Corp., parent of American Airlines Inc. and AMR Eagle Holding Corp., reported a 1 percent increase in consolidated traffic for March on a year-over-year basis. During March, the company boarded 9.4 million passengers. Consolidated available seat miles or capacity rose 0.1 percent higher as compared with the same month last year. Consolidated load factor in March was 82.7 percent, 0.7 points higher versus 81.9 percent in the same period last year. A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge late last month approved insolvent AMR Corp.’s planned $11 billion merger with US Airways Group Inc., which will create the world’s largest airline. Fort Worth-based AMR filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2011.   bdillard@bizpress.net
