Dallas man gets 13 months for aiming laser pointer at helicopter

DALLAS (AP) — A Dallas man must serve 13 months in federal prison for aiming a laser pointer at a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter last year.

Orlando Jose Chapa was sentenced Thursday in Dallas.

The 37-year-old Chapa in November pleaded guilty to aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft.

Prosecutors say Chapa last May 30 aimed the beam of a laser pointer at a DPS helicopter and along its flight path. Investigators say Chapa was in his driveway when he knowingly targeted the chopper as it flew overhead.
