Detroit plane crash killed Texas restaurant owner, wife

DETROIT (AP) — The Texas teenager who survived the crash of a small plane in Detroit remains in a hospital.

The single-engine Cessna crashed Sunday in a Detroit neighborhood, killing pilot Greg Boaz and his wife, Julie. Greg Boaz’ son, 17-year-old Peyton, stumbled out of the wreckage with injuries.

The three were traveling to Detroit to watch volleyball games.

Greg Boaz owned two restaurants, Lone Star Grill in Bacliff, Texas, and Palapa Bar in Kemah, Texas. The Houston-area restaurants shared news of the crash online.

Palapa Bar general manager Walter Wilson says Greg Boaz was a “pillar” of the community.

Investigators say Boaz reported trouble with landing gear as he was approaching a small airport in Detroit. He also told the control tower that he had fuel problems.
