Extended Spur 280-I-35W closure begins Thursday

North Tarrant Express

Motorists traveling north out of downtown Fort Worth are advised to seek alternate routes beginning Thursday as construction closes the eastbound Spur 280 connector to northbound Interstate 35W for about two months.

Those traveling westbound on Spur 280 connecting to northbound I-35W will not be affected, according to Ferrovial Agroman U.S. Corp., one of the firms overseeing the North Tarrant Express I-35W project.

Motorists leaving downtown will be able to continue traveling eastbound on Spur 280.

Officials recommend motorists take the alternate route of eastbound Spur 280 connector to I-35W south, exit Rosedale Street, and make a U-turn to access the on-ramp to northbound I-35W.

As part of this work the off-ramp from northbound I-35W to SH 121 will be moved farther south, near Spur 280.

The work is part of the $1.4 billion North Tarrant Express 35W project, which includes a section ranked sixth on the state’s most congested roadway list. That’s along 6.5 miles of I-35W from north of Interstate 30 to north of Loop 820 including the I-35W/820 interchange in Fort Worth. The project includes the reconstruction of main lanes and the addition of TEXpress managed lanes.

Closures are subject to weather conditions, and construction activities may be postponed if necessary. More information is available at www.northtarrantexpress.com.
