Accelerating high-speed rail plans between Fort Worth and Dallas underscores a June 20 meeting aimed at gaining private sector participation.
“They’re invited to present proposals for advancing the project,” said Bill Meadows, chairman of the Commission for High-Speed Rail in Dallas/Fort Worth, referring to private companies interested in submitting potential plans.
At the June 20 meeting at North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Arlington offices, companies are expected to present proposals for a rail line that would connect to a Dallas-Houston high-speed rail line and have stations in Fort Worth, Dallas and Arlington.
“Arlington and Fort Worth have moved ahead,” said Meadows, referring to participating in a regional entity to advance the project.
“And the Dallas city attorney’s office is reviewing the proposal,” Meadows added.
The meeting follows the Federal Railroad Administration and U.S. Department of Transportation’s March 16 request for proposals for projects for financing, designing, building, operating and maintaining such a rail system. The Arlington meeting is set for 1:30 p.m. in the transportation council room of NCTCOG’s Centerpoint II offices at 616 Six Flags Drive.
