New direct connectors mean Loop 820/I-35W traffic shift

North Tarrant Express

Motorists can expect a traffic shift on Tuesday Aug. 30 when a new direct connector opens from northbound Interstate 35W to eastbound and westbound Loop 820.

Currently, the ramp from northbound I-35W to westbound Loop 820 is accessible using the left side of the highway. The new configuration will require motorists to enter the direct connector to Loop 820 using the right lane.

This new ramp, which will serve both eastbound and westbound I-820 from northbound I-35W, also will be located further south than either of the current direct connectors.

Traffic from southbound I-35W to eastbound and westbound I-820 will not be affected.

The shift and work leading up to the new configuration is weather-permitting.  Updated closure information is posted daily on Twitter (@NTExpress) and Facebook (facebook.com/northtarrantexpress).

The work is part of the $1.4 billion North Tarrant Express 35W project. The project includes roadway currently ranked sixth on the state’s most congested roadway list. That segment runs along 6.5 miles of I-35W from north of Interstate 30 to north of Loop 820, including the I-35W/I-820 interchange in Fort Worth. The project includes the reconstruction of main lanes and the addition of TEXpress managed lanes.
