New hangar for Spinks

Fort Worth Spinks Airport will soon be getting a new hangar.

FWS Realty, Ltd., part of the real estate developer Haydn Cutler Company, plans to lease about 63,299 square feet of land on the west side of Spinks Airport to build a 22,500 square-foot hangar. On March 29, the Fort Worth City Council approved a $900,000 loan to FWS Realty to aid in construction costs.

FWS Realty will lease the property for 27 cents per square foot annually, which totals to about $17,090.73 per year. The loan should be repaid in about 20 years.

The hangar will be FWS Realty’s fourth facility at the airport. The company already has two hangars and an administration building at Spinks.

Spinks has been experiencing a shortage of hangars, as more businesses are showing interest in housing planes at the airport, said Assistant Airport System Director Aaron Barth. Spinks currently has about 40 facilities that house more than 270 aircraft.

Because of the hangar shortage, Spinks has been seeing many developers reach out with interest in building at the airport, Barth said.

One of those developers is Copeland and Bullard, which has three hangars currently under construction at Spinks. The company is building two 3,600-square-foot hangars and one 12,000-square-foot hangar with parking and office space. Barth said in January that the project is expected to finish in May.

“It’s a good sign, certainly encouraging,” Barth said.
