Overnight closures announced for I-35W at NE 28th Street

All lanes of northbound and southbound Interstate 35W at Northeast 28th Street will close this week due to North Tarrant Express construction.

Fort Worth freeway construction continues, with all lanes of northbound and southbound Interstate 35W at Northeast 28th Street set to close this week.

Those lanes close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday May 11, Tuesday May 12 and Thursday May 14, as well as 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. Friday May 15 and Saturday May 16, according to North Tarrant Express officials.

Northbound and southbound traffic will be redirected along the frontage roads.

Eastbound and westbound Northeast 28th also will be closed, with eastbound traffic redirected to Northside Drive. Meanwhile, westbound traffic will be redirected to 33rd Street. Drivers should anticipate delays in the area and seek an alternative route.

Causing the closure is work associated with the $1.4 billion North Tarrant Express 35W project. Included is a section currently ranked eighth on the state’s most congested roadway list along 6.5 miles of I-35W from north of Interstate 30 to north of Loop 820, including the I-35W/I-820 interchange in Fort Worth.

The project includes the reconstruction of main lanes and the addition of TEXpress managed lanes and will be complete in 2018.
