Overnight closures for I-35W at NE 28th Street rescheduled

The planned closure of northbound and southbound Interstate 35W at Northeast 28th Street has been rescheduled.

The planned closures of northbound and southbound Interstate 35W at Northeast 28th Street north of downtown Fort Worth have changed.

Instead of occurring the weekend of May 15 and 16, inclement weather has forced planners to reschedule the closure from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday May 18, Tuesday May 19 and Wednesday May 20. Northbound and southbound traffic will be redirected along the frontage roads, according to North Tarrant Express officials.

Eastbound and westbound Northeast 28th Street also will be closed. Eastbound traffic will be redirected to Northside Drive, with westbound traffic redirected to 33rd Street. Drivers should anticipate delays in the area and seek an alternative route.

Causing the closure is work associated with the $1.4 billion North Tarrant Express 35W project. Included is a section ranked eighth on the state’s most congested roadway list along 6.5 miles of I-35W from north of Interstate 30 to north of Loop 820, including the I-35W/I-820 interchange in Fort Worth.

The project includes the reconstruction of main lanes and the addition of TEXpress managed lanes and will be complete in 2018.
