Rolling I-35W closures set for Saturday, Sunday

North Tarrant Express

Motorists near downtown Fort Worth can expect rolling full freeway closures this Saturday and Sunday on southbound and northbound Interstate 35W between First and Fourth streets.

The closures are planned for Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and also include eastbound and westbound East Belknap Street-East Weatherford Street (State Highway 121) at I-35W.

The Federal Aviation Administration requested the closures so Oncor can relocate a transmission utility line via helicopter to limit impacts to the traveling public.

The work may be postponed due to potentially wet weather, with additional days added for the work. Updated closure information is posted daily on Twitter (@NTExpress) and Facebook (facebook.com/northtarrantexpress)

The work is part of the $1.4 billion North Tarrant Express 35W project. Included is a section ranked sixth on the state’s most congested roadway list along 6.5 miles of I-35W from north of Interstate 30 to north of Loop 820. The area includes the I-35W/820 interchange in Fort Worth and entails reconstructing the main lanes and the addition of TEXpress managed lanes.
