Smoke reported in aircraft at Phoenix airport but none found

PHOENIX (AP) — Boarding of a flight to El Paso, Texas, was halted at Sky Harbor International Airport so mechanics could check out a report of smoke inside the aircraft.

Spokeswoman Julie Rodriguez says firefighters found no smoke when they responded Monday morning. She says passengers aboard the aircraft disembarked through the walkway into a Terminal Four concourse.

American Airlines spokesman Ross Feinstein says the aircraft was American Eagle Flight 5594 operated by Mesa Airlines. and that it was during boarding that the incident occurred.

At least four fire trucks responded to the report, but only fire vehicle remained at the scene about a half-hour later.
