Trinity Metro announced Monday Jan. 7 it has received word from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) that the entire 27-mile TEXRail route has been approved for passenger service.

The agency said it expects full service from the T&P Station to DFW Airport’s Terminal B to begin on Thursday, Jan. 10.

Trinity Metro’s new 27-mile, $1 billion TEXRail commuter rail line was originally set to begin service from Fort Worth to the airport on Jan. 5.

On Friday afternoon, Jan. 4, Trinity Metro said it discovered a signal issue that interrupted train operations.

“We determined the issue was caused by a hardware installation problem by our signal contractor,” the agency said in a news release. “We are testing each piece of hardware to make sure that all components are working properly before we begin passenger service.”

President/CEO Paul Ballard credits the FRA for continuing to work with Trinity Metro during a time when they are short-handed. “We greatly appreciate all of the efforts to move TEXRail from the testing phase to full service by all of the personnel at FRA.”

“The city deserves and will have innovative and progressive transportation,” said Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price on Dec. 31 as the train prepared to leave from the Northside station, headed to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport for a trial run.

“This will give us a golden opportunity to look at expanding the rail going south toward the Medical District where there are nearly [40,000] jobs.”

Passengers can ride the train for free until Feb. 1. TEXRail will run from downtown Fort Worth to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport’s Terminal B, providing a dai ly commuting option for regional employees and travelers.

“TEXRail is a premium service, and we want to give everyone an opportunity to ride,” said Trinity Metro Senior Vice President Bob Baulsir late in December.

On Feb. 1, customers will pay $2.50 for a one-way ticket. A $5 day pass is good for all rail and buses in Tarrant County.
