Kim Arnold, from Fort Worth’s transportation and public works department, gave the Fort Worth City Council on May 16 an update on the Montgomery Street expansion near the site of the new Dickies Arena. The project covers a one-mile stretch from Interstate 30 north to Camp Bowie Boulevard.
The renovations will include 11-foot-wide traffic and turn lanes, bike lanes, crosswalks and shade trees to provide a buffer between traffic and pedestrians.
The projected is expected to be completed by the fall of 2019 to coincide with the opening of the new arena.
Arnold said work will be stopped before the Fort Worth Stock Show in 2018 and 2019 and will resume after the Cowtown Marathon in each of those years, with the streets made clear for traffic to and from those events.
“The neighborhoods have been extremely cooperative,” said Councilman Dennis Shingleton. “It’s going to be a great addition as a key entrance to the Cultural District.”
